Social, Cultural, Literary and Environmental Activities

Nagathihalli Chandrashekar is greatly involved in socio cultural activities. He founded the Vivekananda Youth Club in his village, Nagathihalli, in 1977. Rural developmental activities such as educating farmers on modern agricultural methods, planting of trees, contributing to the construction of schools, bringing awareness among villagers on primary health care, etc are carried out under the banner of the club.


Chandrashekar has also founded ‘Abhivyakti’, a non-profit cultural forum involved in various literary and social activities like publication of books, conducting inter-caste marriages, etc. Abhivyakti has published 19 books so far, of these 12 titles are penned by Chandrashekar himself. Several seminars on varied subjects and workshops have been conducted by this organization.


Nagathihalli Chandrashekar is also an environmental activist. He has actively campaigned for various environmental issues. As part of an environmental movement, he has delivered a series of lectures in villages on the topic of, “Save the Western Ghats.” He has also released an audio cassette, “Naanu Hadedavva” on environmental issues. His deep concerns for the environment finds an expression in his latest film, “Mathad Mathadu Mallige” [Speak, O Speak Jasmine!].
